The Effects of Alzheimer’s Disease on the Human Brain are Significant
In this modern age, we know more about our brain and its function than we ever have before in history. We know that it regulates many of the body systems and is where we create and store memory. Even with all the advances, we still have much to learn about how Alzheimer’s disease affects the human brain. We know the disease attacks the brain’s ability to store, retrieve, and process memories and that eventually it leads to complete system shut down, as the brain is no longer able to regulate functions within the body including heart rate and respiration.
We also know that people who keep their brains active through reading, logic problems, and puzzles seem to have less affects from Alzheimer’s disease and that the illness progresses slower within those same individuals. Perhaps the constant input of information and exercising of problem solving skills are like weight lifting for the mind building and strengthening the organ so that it is better able to protect itself. Because the human brain is such a complex organ even though it has been studied since ancient times, we still have failed completely to unlock all its mysteries but perhaps someday we will have a full understanding of this remarkable human organ.
